So earlier this year I visited Santorini with my mum, and I’ve been to ios last year. While In santorini I realised I wanted to be in Greece for the summer. I applied for jobs online as a receptionist without knowing I’d actually get the job. Now I’m not going to write names but I got a job at a Hostel in Mykonos, I’ve been aware that it wasn’t going to be easy and indeed I didn’t make it through the whole summer. The reason why I couldn’t handle it wasn’t because of the job but the people I used to work with. Greeks are used to work hard in the summer and then do nothing during winter time. I was working in hospitality meaning I had to be smiling all the time, but it’s really hard when you have your boss screaming at you or giving u shit if you sit down for 5 minutes while you work everyday for 10 hours without a day off.. at least I had the pleasure to experience it and I spent 2 months in the beautiful island. Has any of you worked a season and actually got it through?
Probably the best place I’ve been too. And i’ve been here only 2 days!
Despite all the awful things that happen in this world, Santorini is a paradise. The views, the food, the wine, the sunsets, and the way Greeks take care of their island by constantly painting the walls and floors to maintain their place tidy and good for the eye. And no mention their cordiality and will to help you out. Greece is not doing well as most Europe and I admire that they treat tourists with respect because they need them, and something that I really admire is that everyone speaks English. Unlike in my country, Italy..they expect you to get to learn Italian, how embarrassing. Well this is to keep enjoying my days in the island and to keep pushing forward the date to leave :p because I really don’t want to at least not yet !
So mum and I booked a flight on Friday to depart on Sunday to Crete, Greece. Yeah just 2 days..another spontaneous trip! But because we noticed that ferries for this season go to Santorini only every Sunday we booked the only ferry available after we would arrive to Crete. We landed at Chania at 3 pm got our bags and there was a cab waiting for us that I booked in advance just in case so we could make it to the ferry(it was set to leave at 6pm) from the port of Heraklion and from Chania to the port it’s a 2 hours drive! Anyhow we made it on time and not only! Our ferry was delayed by an hour! Good news is that after 2.5 hours flight with 2.15 in a taxi and 6 in a ferry..It’s 2 am and we are finally in Santorini!!
